09 Sep A special story for world literacy day
As readers, story-tellers and story-lovers, we are excited every year when National Book Week (6-10 September 2021) and International Literacy Day (8 September 2021) arrives. This year, our YeBoneers participated in the YearBeyond programme’s reading activation challenge, and we spent time in our sessions with learners to read with them.
To show how stories bring people together, we created a short video telling a story we received from our friends in Bosnia & Herzegovina, UG Pomozimo Djeci, who we connected with through the Resilience Fund.
The story behind the story: A while back we organised a joint forest bathing programme with UG Pomozimo Djeci. Both organisations took people out on the same day, and we were digitally guided by Aardwolf Nature Connection. At one stage, we were asked to imagine a message being sent to us all the way from Bosnia, and at that moment a chorus of frogs took up their singing. It really felt like they were the messengers! When we shared this with our friends in Bosnia, they told us that frogs feature regularly in their tales, and Maja Lolic wrote this story for us.
Here are some images from our classrooms this week:
